As a general rule biofiltration technology can be
applied to both urban waste water treatment as well
as for industrial waste water and for the elimination
of organic and nitrogenous material. In particular
it is suitable for the following cases:
- If the suspended solids requirement in the treated
water are very strict. At the discharge of a biofiltration
system concentrations of 5 to 20mg/l can be reached.
- When the water to be treated has very variable
characteristics over time owing to a change in
industrial production or because of the presence
of oversized homogenisation pools.
- Its high active biomass content means that it
can tolerate the occasional presence of undesirable
compounds – negative affect on the biological
process.
- Its small structure means that investment in
ground surface is kept to a minimum.
