The main advantages of biofiltration are the following:
- This is a competitive technology in zones where
there is not much land available.
- The modular design makes the adaptation to
load variations easier (water distributed to one
or several biofiltration modules) and the possibility
of extending the plant.
- Retention of suspended particles in the centre
of the reactor, this avoids the construction of
a secondary settler, a source of frequent problems
in active sludge.
- Flexibility and easy operation.
- Simultaneous settling of the biological residues
and primary residues can be in just one settler
unit according to the self-flocculating properties
of the washing water.
- Totally automatic operation which makes the
work of the installation team considerably easier.
